Book 1 of the All of Me Duet
When they story opens, we are introduced to Rod as a teen, his sister is struggling with a serious illness and that night their dad goes out to get her much needed medicine and never returns. Years later and Rod has created a life where he can never put himself in the situation to do something similar to his own family.
Then he and his friends go on a trip to a singles resort where they happen upon Daisy and her best friend Tracey. Daisy is also very emotionally unattached – she has closed herself off, isn’t interested in anything casual, slow to trust, but has been coerced into this singles trip with her best friend. She and Rod meet and although it’s instant chemistry, Rod also pull a serious cheesy and over the top pickup line and thus begins the push/pull of their relationship.
This is book one of a duet about them, and it does end on a cliffhanger. You spend a lot of time with Rod and Daisy in both their worlds as they get to know each other, and the baggage that both have causing them to be cautious of love and relationships. This was such an interesting read, you could almost see it playing out in real life as though you are witnessing a real relationship and I can’t wait to read the next book and see what happens in their journey to love.
The only thing I had a little trouble with is that Rod and his friends are all in their mid thirties but when the book opens and they are at the resort, the way they talked about women and sex felt like witnessing teens, and immature ones at that, having a conversation. It felt like they were disrespectful of women. This was disconcerting, but I kept with it and glad I did, because this did disappear and go away. I’m usually not fond at all of duets, and especially cliffhangers, but I very much enjoyed this one and definitely recommend it.
Thanks to Booksprout for the advanced reader copy of this book. I voluntarily left this review.
