⭐⭐⭐⭐
Unique with an entirely male POV!
Very unique in many ways. Lachlan is from Scotland and taking a month out of his life to regroup after a difficult divorce. He has house swapped with friends who live in Chicago. While there, he comes upon his neighbor, Erica, and embarks on a casual fling with her. The rules are that their fling will never evolve into more and to help with that plan they aren’t to discuss anything personal. Lachlan finds himself stymied by his own plans when he is intrigued by Erica and wants to know more, but can’t without breaking those rules.
This was very different than many other books I’ve read. It’s written entirely from the Lachlan’s point of view, and I loved all the Scottish expressions in this book. I’ve read books with Scots before, but this book really made a point of using words and language in a way I hadn’t seen done before.
However, there were pieces of this that I struggled with, and probably why I sometimes prefer to not get my Heroes point of view.
I prefer a more alpha male at times in my romance, and had this not been in his pov he might have come across this way, but getting his pov and having him constantly switch between feeling he is falling for Erica or in love with her to the next minute deciding it’s just a fling made it apparent he didn’t know his own mind and highlighted his weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Sometimes I like seeing that in my heroes, but at times it makes them less appealing, and in that way this just didn’t really work for me. I also felt like he constantly contradicted himself. Deciding nothing personal, and it’s just a casual fling, but then having breakfast together every single day and making sure to say goodnight in person every single night sort of defeated that purpose. Despite this, it was a fun read and I very much enjoyed reading about a Scottish hero!
I received an Advance Reader Copy and have voluntarily left an honest review.
Coming up soon are the next two books in the series!

Anna Durand is a bestselling, multi-award-winning author of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her books have earned bestseller status on every major retailer and wonderful reviews from readers around the world. But that’s the boring spiel. Here are some really cool things you want to know about Anna!
Born on Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Anna grew up moving here, there, and everywhere thanks to her dad’s job as an instructor pilot. She’s lived in Texas (twice), Mississippi, California (twice), Michigan (twice), and Alaska–and now Ohio.
As for her writing, Anna has always made up stories in her head, but she didn’t write them down until her teen years. Those first awful books went into the trash can a few years later, though she learned a lot from those stories. Eventually, she would pen her first romance novel, the paranormal romance Willpower, and she’s never looked back since.
