LOVED this one from the first page!
One of the tropes I enjoy is when the H/h are involved casually and the h wants more, but the H *thinks* he doesn’t and pushes the h away. That’s exactly how this one begins, so it had me hooked right then. We met both Bethanie and Laurent in the first Astor Family book, Hypocritically Yours. About the time that Tennessee and Landry get together, is when Bethanie and Laurent part ways, with Laurent completely obliterating Bethanie’s heart in the process. Because of this she creates distance, discovers she’s pregnant, but can’t figure out how to tell him.
Bethanie is Tennessee’s best friend, and Laurent is Landry’s son. On their road to happy ever after they face a lot of complications and problems, the least of which is the lingering family problems revolving around Landry’s ex-wife, Laurent’s mother, and Laurent’s own insecurities and doubts from growing up in a family where the parents had a toxic marriage. The only piece to this story that never felt fully resolved is Laurent’s issues around marriage. This book absolutely has a HEA(all of Hayley’s Faiman’s books do, so that isn’t a spoiler) but it felt like Laurent’s issues with marriage were unresolved despite being a huge part of their story. However, I loved every minute of reading this book. The angst and drama that they both go through on their journey is exactly what makes for a gripping romance.
