Knockout by Jessica Prince

Layla meets Jude the day she moves into her new apartment and immediately they rub each other the wrong way. Jude sizes Layla up based on her looks and assumes she is exactly like his ex, who left him for someone else because she cared more about status. Layla, having grown up in foster care, works hard for everything she has and makes it a point to give back in both time and money.

This was an enemies to lovers romance, with Jude and Layla involved in pranking each other as they work to one up each other to get back for each interaction that they have. Jessica is a talented writer and this is definitely well written, and you get a good sense of who both Layla and Jude are and despite their antics, their attraction for each other. I waffled slightly between 3 and 4 stars, since the antics felt too juvenile for me and made both Layla and Jude feel a little immature, but once those antics stopped, things picked up and Jude became much more alpha and appealing. For those that like angst, but also a sweet romance, this has a bit of both going for it. Looking forward to the next book in the Whiskeydolls series!
