Vi Carter really knows how to write a compelling dark romance with a lot of action and I can’t wait to see what she has coming next!
This is an action-packed, dark mafia romance. Dana, the “princess” in her mafia family, has been left in the dark to exactly what her family is involved in. When she learns the truth, they give her in to Cillian’s care to keep her from not only causing problems for them, but also safe. Cillian has little patience and time for a spoiled princess, but needs the help in finding his sister, as has been promised in exchange for keeping Dana. What follows is a tale of intrigue, murder, lies and romance as we follow Cillian in has path to get find and bring his sister home, while fighting his growing attraction to Dana.
Although I loved all the intrigue, how fast paced it is, and that I wasn’t sure what would happen next, I found Dana annoying and almost unlikeable at times. She has been kept completely innocent of everything, but is almost ridiculously naïve about things. She harps on a murder that takes place in one of the earlier books, but in reality she should have been much quicker to realize that it never would have happened if it hadn’t been in self-defense. At one point she realizes exactly who and what her father is, and what and who he isn’t, yet in the end is still blind to his reality again. She definitely grows on you as the story goes on, but I need my heroines to be able to make growth and be a little quicker on the uptake and this definitely kept this from being a five star read for me. Vi Carter really knows how to write a compelling dark romance with a lot of action and I can’t wait to see what she has coming next!
