This book is about families and friends in a small town and how complicated these relationships can sometimes be. Highly recommend this.
Cate C. Wells has such a unique voice and it really calls out to me. In some ways, these characters feels so real because of the way they are written and the thoughts in their head. I was drawn to Cash when we first met him in Hitting the Wall and when I heard the next book in the Stonecut County series would be his, I couldn’t wait to see how she turned him into the hero in his own book. This is different from the first book in the series, with an intense suspense running through it. In this one, you still have the former Sherriff’s actions to contend with, but it’s not what is driving this story. Cash and Glenna are. This more of an enemies to lovers, fake relationship love story and it’s so incredibly well done!
Against A Wall is about Glenna and Cash. The town barely tolerates her after her byline in the article exposing the former Sherriff and his misdeeds. Cash is one of the good ol’ boys, but has also been Glenna’s arch nemesis- the one who since she was young has tormented her. An incident occurs that has them starting a “fake relationship” but the reality is that Cash has always had his eyes on her, and Glenna, despite not wanting to, has always felt an attraction to Cash. Reading as you dive deep into these characters, you witness the talent Cate C. Wells has in understanding people and how they think. Her characters are so multi-dimensional that you can’t be helped but be drawn in to find out what will happen next and how things will resolve. This book is about families and friends in a small town and how complicated these relationships can sometimes be. Highly recommend this. You don’t need to have read Hitting the Wall first to enjoy this one, but it was also a five star read for me. This is also loosely connects with her Steel Bones series, which I also strongly recommend reading.
