I only recently discovered Lexi Blake and have been slowly working through her backlist. I’m partway through Masters & Mercenaries, so was excited when this one hit my kindle. Deke and Maddie have a history. They were very much high school sweethearts, in love, when Deke broke things off with Maddie so she couldn’t pass on college or her scholarship for him. Maddie has never gotten over Deke making that decision and doing that to her. Now it’s years later and Maddie is convinced something nefarious is going on with the company she works for and her boss and has turned to Deke for help in figuring things out. You also get a lot of depth with the secondary characters, and I of course can’t wait now for the next several books to see what happens with them.
I love Lexi Blake’s stories. She creates such rich characters and plots where you really get to know the characters. She is also a master at writing intense, steamy spicy scenes. If you love romantic suspense with some kink thrown in – this is definitely for you!
