Mine to Have by Natasha Madison

At the open of this story, Harlow gets a wedding invitation to her ex-boyfriend’s wedding. They were together for two years, she considered him the love of her life, and then he broke up with her. It’s four years later and she decides to go ahead and go to the wedding since she had promised him she would always be there on his happiest of days. Travis wedding goes nothing as planned. Anything that can go wrong, does and in the end there is no wedding nor an engagement.

On the one hand, I thoroughly enjoyed Travis and Harlow’s story and parts of it were a clear five star read for me. But I had a little trouble with the premise everything was built upon. I somehow missed that there was a prequel and wonder if I’d read that, maybe things were explained better? I never understood Travis reasons for breaking up with Harlow. Internally, he thinks through not wanting to make Harlow choose between a life with him or a life with her family, but this didn’t make much sense to me. I never read or felt we were given any rational reason why he couldn’t just move to be with her near her family? Maybe it’s in the prequel. Maybe I missed a page that explained it? But it really disturbed me that it’s never even brought up as a possibility and I had a difficult time getting around that.

If you take that completely out of the equation, it does become a five star read for me. It’s a sweet, second chance romance and I absolutely adored some of the secondary characters we meet along the way and am very much looking forward to their stories!
