Inked Temptation by Carrie Ann Ryan

Archer is only a year out of his divorce and still struggling to get back to himself. He is having a hard time being the only one in his family without a partner and still grappling with issues of inadequacy despite knowing his ex was emotionally abusive and not the right person for him. In his work life, he is finding comfort working on a house in the woods that he feels a connection to that he can’t easily define. There he meets Killian, who literally cushions his fall when he tumbles from a ladder.

Killian is working on his remote cabin, having isolated himself from everyone as he grapples with deep grief, nightmares and guilt. He is struggling getting through and moving forward with his life, but finds himself feeling a pull to Archer and sharing things with him he can’t share with anyone else.

I loved reading about what both Archer and Killian were going through and how they help each other with their trauma and difficulties. At the same time we get a lot of time to catch up with all the Montgomery siblings and cousins, and there is a bit of suspense in this story as well.

This is a standalone, but having read the previous books in the series, my only thing was wanting to have seen on page a little more of what went wrong with Archer and his ex. We had glimpses of that relationship in previous books from dating, to engaged and then they were married. I think because I have a great love for angsty romance, I wouldn’t have minded if this one has picked up with their actual breakup. That being said, it’s also not necessary to read and enjoy this one.
