Sweet Like Poison by J. Wolf

My first introduction to Elena was in Soft Like Thunder, and I had a hard time seeing how she could have her own book and that I could enjoy it. She is however my favorite of this series. Elena has an icy, hard exterior and shows the world one side of her, but really she is incredibly vulnerable and we get to see what has happened in her life to make her who she is. This story definitely contains a number of tropes and situations that I see people again and again ask for. Lachlan is somewhat stoic and reserved but also very alpha and protective, but he fights his attraction to Elena. At one point Elena overhears Lachlan saying mean things about her. This is an opposites attract kind of story and their “relationship” starts as a very casual one. I loved how thoroughly we get to see inside both Lachlan and Elena and what makes them who they are and the pain that both of them have been through and are going through. This is my favorite book in the series so far- I absolutely LOVED it!
