Roman’s story!
Roman is the continuation of the Men of the Falls duet – interconnected standalones. Roman’s family is mafia and his path crosses with Effie when her sister, owing Roman and his casino a large sum of money, offers her up as payment. Roman on a whim tracks her down and ends up intervening to save her. It was clear from the start that Roman was entranced with her and felt pulled in a way he couldn’t explain and wanted to deny. I’m a sucker for caring, protective overbearing Hero and the heroine in trouble tropes, so this worked really well for me. I do wish considering the storyline and tropes that there was more angst to the story. We had more of Roman’s POV than Effies, and in some ways it makes this story very different from previous ones with similar storylines, but in others ways kept me from fully being immersed in the angst of the story.
