Skies Over Caledonia by Samantha Young

Skies Over Caledonia is a steamy marriage of convenience love story that has so much going on and is just so good. Jared had a rough time with his parents, and was essentially saved by his grandfather who gave him a place to live and a job. When his grandfather died he left him the family farm which he is putting his all into saving. Allegra is the youngest daughter of celebrity parents and from afar seems to have it all, but in reality has been through some really difficult and tragic circumstances. Her only safe place is wherever her sister is, but since that is in Scotland, she is in jeopardy of not being allowed back in after her current visit ends. Allegra comes up with a plan that will help her to stay in Scotland and save Jared’s farm – marry Jared and invest in his farm.

Allegra and Jared have always danced around a mutual attraction. Jared has no plans to settle down and has always kept Allegra at arms length. Now they are living in the same home, newly married and pretending for the world that they are in love. I really enjoy love stories where the couple is thrown together and have to dance around each other and their feelings as they work through things. This author is fabulous at giving us fully fleshed out characters and because of each of their families we also got to spend time with some of the characters from previous books and they were so deftly intertwined into this story. I loved how I could really feel Allegra and Jared’s angst and turmoil at times and their love story was really just beautiful.

Skies Over Caledonia also has a bit of a mystery running throughout it, as do all the previous books in these series. I really enjoyed this one, especially because I hadn’t guessed at all where the ultimate danger was coming from and I love when I’m surprised in that way. We also get a little glimpse in this story of Callie and Lewis, who we first met in earlier books and whose book, Norther Twilight, I am now eagerly anticipating!
