⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you like suspense and intrigue, then this is definitely worth your time- it’s a unique story.
This book has a great premise and completely reels you in, wanting to know what happens next. Sophie wakes up in a hospital not knowing who she is or how she got there. She is the victim of a violent crime and when released from the hospital takes refuge in an old estate working to help clear it up and get it ready to be inhabited again. What follows is tale of intrigue, my tery and romance as Sophie tries to figure out who she is and where she came from, while trying to avoid others since she doesn’t remember where or who the danger comes from.
Although the premise was gripping and I read this in one sitting, wanting to unravel the mystery, there were some real problems with the executions. The passing of time was hard to follow here, and somewhat unrealistic. She spends three weeks in a hospital but her her first time talking with the police is at the end of her second week. Then there were periods where time would pass, and someone would make a reference so that you knew it was a month later, but because of other references, it doesn’t seem like it could have been a month and it also seems like relationships would have been further developed during the time that has passed. I struggled a bit with whether to give this 4 or 3 stars, but in the end I liked how original it was, and that the ending wasn’t obvious from the beginning.
The author does a good job of creating suspense and intrigue and sending off red herrings – it’s rare for me not to figure out an ending in advance and although I did finally guess it – it took a long time before I got there and I definitely enjoyed reading to try and figure it out. If you like suspense and intrigue, then this is definitely worth your time- it’s a unique story. This is a departure from what I’ve been reading lately, the focus of this one is more the mystery and intrigue and although there is a romantic aspect to this story, it’s second to the suspense.
