My favorite of this series!
This final book in the Adair family series is probably my favorite of the series. I’m not usually a huge fan of second chance books with a long separation, but this one really worked for me in a big way. Brodan has returned home after years away working tirelessly as a successful actor with only short, sparse trips home to see his family. Monroe, his childhood best friend from whom he has been estranged from now for more years than they were friends, is also back in town to care for her mom recovering from surgery. Both have had difficult lives in the intervening years and both carry hurt and anger over their last parting and separation.
One of my favorite things is when an author is able to write in such a way that I feel the extreme emotions the characters are going through as though they are my own, and Samantha Young is extremely talented. Monroe’s pain over all that she has and is going through was conveyed so well, and Brodan was your typical arrogant, high-handed Hero’s who take their pain out on others, but yet the more awful they are, the more you want to see it all work out. Roe and Brodan do not have an easy or smooth time of it on their way to their Happy Ever After, and this book really pulls at your emotions as you go through the ups and downs with them, but I loved reading it.
I especially loved the special epilogue at the end where we get to visit with all the previous Adair couples and get snippets into their lives and their happy ever afters. I’m also looking forward now to Sloane and Walker’s story which is coming next in Beyond the Thistles.
