Kristen Ashley proves how versatile her writing can be with this captivating romantic thriller. Rus, Special Agent Zachariah Lazarus, has been the lead investigator filling the serially killer they call the Crystal Killer. He lands in Mystic Pines when they think they have his next victim. While investigating, he crosses paths with Lucinda Bonner, employer of the victim and catches Rus’s attention and proves herself useful in helping with aspects of the investigation.

I loved all the layers and depths you get with this installment in the Mystic Pines series. We get to see some of the more layers form the previous installment as well as meet some new ones. What sets this apart for me was that it’s told entirely in third person from Rus’s point of view. In addition, you get a lot of details as you follow along with his investigation and really get to know these characters in depth. The romance aspect was very slow burn, but still enjoyable, but the emphasis in this one is definitely on the mystery and investigation. I can’t wait for more of these and have a whole cast of characters I’m hoping we get books for- Jase, Jesse, Yeager, and Moran.
