The Heroes We Break by Natasha Knight

I really love the way this author’s writing style and how she tells a story. Usually, flashbacks aren’t my thing no matter who or how they are written, yet here they work so well and really help to amplify these characters and their situation. Olivia is a crossroads with her father in jail having pled guilty to serious financial charges, and finding herself engaged to Ethan, the son of her father’s business partner, who her father cleared of said charges when he pled guilty. Complicating an already complicated situation is her reaction to Silas, Ethan’s unacknowledged half brother.

I loved the intrigue in this story, there are so many things that don’t add up and we know there are going to be twists and turns. What impacted my review is Olivia’s choices and actions don’t align with what we know of her and how she feels about her father, plus past experiences with Ethan and her knowledge of his dad. However, I loved reading this and that cliffhanger at the end just comes at you and I’m now anxious to get to the rest of this duet!
